Compression is required for

Transformation: is either expending energy or “cultivating energy”

Transformation refers to the transitional point between “loading” and “exploding.”

Movement checklist

  1. Action
  2. Environment
  3. Position
  4. Drive
  5. Direction
  6. Height
  7. Distance
  8. Load
  9. Rate
  10. Duration

Action

subdivided into global movements and local movements

Global Movements

  • Fundamental
  • Skills
  • Tasks

Local Movements

  • Regionally
  • Structurally

Environment

  • outdoors / indoors
  • pool vs ocean

Positions

  • Standing
  • Seated
  • Kneeling
  • Prone
  • Side Lying
  • Supine
  • Transitions

Transitions: positions between two other positions:

  • Between sitting and lying would occur during bed mobility

Driver

Raise R arm overhand and rotate the arm as far as you can to the right:

Results in pronated L foot and supinated R foot.

Assessment and Programming Strategies

CAFS breaks down their assessment and programming in 4 key parts:

  • Subjective
  • Global
  • Local
  • Plan

Subjective

  1. Listen:
  2. Direct:
  3. Guide:

The goal of the subjective is to understand the person’s goals and functional threshold

Holistic programming Example:

  • muscle hypertrophy (aesthetics)
  • decreased pain during activity (sport)

Functional threshold can be broken down into:

  • What activity do they

Global

Global is split into skills and tasks and Fundamental movements.

Skills and tasks consist of ADLs, walking, sports, and hobbies

Fundamental movements refer to:

  • Gait
  • Lunging
  • Squatting
  • Reaching
  • Pulling
  • Pushing
  • Jumping
  • Lifting

Local

Local is divided into 2 subcategories: Isolated and Structure specific.

Isolated regions include:

  • Cervival
  • Thoracic
  • Lumbar
  • Hip
  • Knee
  • Foot and Ankle
  • Shoulder/Elbow/Hand

Plan

The plan is broken down into the 10 observation essentials and Manipulate and manage
